The specialty
Thoracic surgery deals with surgical conditions of the lungs, airways, pleura, chest wall and mediastinum between the lungs. In Türkiye, cardiac surgery is a separate specialty.
How is an assessment made?
Symptoms, examination and imaging findings are considered together. Seeing a thoracic surgeon does not always mean an operation is needed.
